What to eat in Cheras?
Cheras is a huge town, which area spans from Kuala Lumpur all the way to Kajang. For this reason, you can easily find abundance of food here. This list will be updated from time to time to keep you informed on the must-try food in town!
1. Restoran Cui Yann
How else to kick start your morning but with hot steaming buns and juicy savory dimsums? This three adjoining shop-lots restaurant located at Batu 11 is always teeming with people early in the morning. You might even need have to wait around for a bit before getting seated.
Must-try: Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow/虾饺)
23-25, Jalan SS 2/1, Off Jalan Balakong,
Batu 11, Bandar Cheras,
43200, Kajang, Cheras, Selangor.
2. Restoran Soon Keng
This is one of the best restaurant in the neighborhood! Like many other restaurants in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, this place is always crowded during dinner time. Great service and delicious, tasty dishes. Read more about it here.
16& 18G Jalan Temenggung 17/9,
Seksyen 9, Bandar Mahkota Cheras,
3. Venezia Italian Restaurant
Located at Taman Segar (just behind Leisure Mall), Venezia has had its glorious time in the past when it was swarmed with teenagers and adults alike. I remembered having my lasagna prepared by an Italian chef during my first time dining at the restaurant. However, the waiters and chefs (and probably owner too) have been replaced and I am unclear if its business is still as good. Was there again just a few months ago and the owner was generous enough to treat us to a plate of roasted pumpkin and spinach salad (which I reckon will be a newly introduced dish) and it was delicious! Give it try and decide if it's worth the recommendation.
Must-try: Brownie with vanilla ice-cream (Rich, soft, and velvety. A pleasure to the taste buds!)
No.1, Jalan Manis 4,
Taman Segar, Cheras
56100 Kuala Lumpur
4. Citarasa Seafood Market Steamboat
While this restaurant isn't exactly located in Cheras, it really does not make any difference because it is only a short drive away. Who would have thought that a restaurant located in NSK (a hypermarket similar to Mydin) will have business this good? (I queued for a little more than half an hour before I got seated, and then spent another additional thirty minutes wading through the screaming crowd just to grab some additional ingredients for the steamboat). The unique characteristic of this steamboat restaurant which has probably set it apart from the rest is its "market". You get to choose from a vast array of fresh seafood, vegetables, meat, noodles etc, make your payment at the counter (mind you though, things can a little overpriced), and have them boiled in your favorite soup! Fast and simple!
