Yes, periuk kera are pitcher plants, and they have been consumed for decades as snacks by the local indigenous people, where glutinous rice is cooked within their pliable yet tough skins. Most Malaysians have never come across this dish before, let alone foreigners, as this dish is so unique and rare. However, the government has advised against the consumption of Lemang Periuk Kera due to the declining population.
